 William Brooks Youth Fitness Program/Running with Rhett

After School Running Club

 

WHAT:  This free program teaches our children that running is fun by increasing running distances very gradually.  Details are described in the Training Program information. This program is open to all William Brooks students and their parents.  Participation in the  Run Because You Can 5K race at Sacramento City College on April 22 is optional.  Training will initially be 30 minutes after school, Monday and Wednesday, gradually increasing to 1 hour at the end of the training.  There will be one run on your own (it can even be on Friday morning, at the Friday morning walk).

 

WHEN:  Start the program on Monday, February 26, eight weeks before the before the Run Because You Can 5k race at Sacramento City College on April 22, 2018.

WHEN:  Sunday, April 22, at 8:00 a.m.

WHERE:  Sacramento City College

DETAILS:  Participation in this event is voluntary.  Transportation to and from the race and supervision at the event will be he responsibility of the child’s parent or guardian.

Brooks Youth Fitness / Running with Rhett Program Training Schedule

Each student will be required to keep a log of when and how far they run on their own, to be signed off on by a parent and turned in on Monday.  This helps us know that your child is prepared for the race (and know who has earned their ribbons).  On your own running should be in at least one-half miles increments.  The schedule below allows for a possible rainout practice.  If multiple practices are cancelled, additional on-your-own running miles will be assigned.

 

This schedule is designed to build the child up to running the 5k (3.1 mile) Run.

Over-training could be harmful to your child’s body.
